Hi everyone! It's Bono and my sidekick Sarah. Sarah's not much of a writer so she asked me to "speak" on her behalf and send everyone an
update on what's new with us. For those of you who don't remember us, we were former CARE guests several years ago. Sarah was a stray who
came to CARE with her litter of very young puppies. All the puppies were adopted very quickly but no one was adopting her, possibly because
she was heartworm positive as I was too (more on that in just a bit). About a year after Sarah was eventually adopted, I was rescued after
being dumped out in a ditch in very bad shape. I had many injuries but thanks to all my friends at CARE, they made sure I not only had the
life-saving medical attention I required but also all the love I needed to make a full recovery. Now back to the heartworm "stuff"…Our Mom,
who used to volunteer at CARE before moving to TN where she continues her volunteer work, convinced our Dad to let her bring Sarah home to
foster during heartworm treatment. About a year later and after much convincing, she persuaded him to let her do the same with me. Well, you
can probably guess what happened. Shortly after arriving at what was to be our foster home during treatment, they both fell in love with us
and decided to adopt us and we've been living the "high life" ever since.
We moved here in the fall of 2007, the most beautiful time of year. Since we grew up in FL, we never knew that the leaves changed colors and
then fell to the ground. They have lots of these pretty trees here which Mom calls pine trees and red maple trees, although they don't have any
palm trees - still trying to figure out where they hide them! We now live on almost 15 acres, much of it fenced so we have lots of fun roaming
around, checking out all the trees (I think you know what I mean!) as well as all the wildlife. There are all kinds of birds, squirrels, skunks
(Mom tells us to stay clear of those things), raccoons, opossums, owls, wild turkey and lots and lots of deer. In fact, I scaled the fence to try
to chase one down - got in trouble for that but it was well worth it because it was so much fun. We go on lots of walks in the woods which is one
of our all-time favorite things to do. There are these things called hills here which are pretty big and take some getting used to though. In fact,
Mom says we live on a mountain although we are not quite sure exactly what that means. All we know is the view from our back porch is breathtaking
and we often lie in the sun on the porch and just soak it all in.
There is something else that happens during the winter here that we've never seen before - snow! We usually get less than an inch and it's usually
gone within a day or two but we had one storm this winter which dumped three inches - wow! I really don't care for it but Sarah absolutely loves
it. She digs in it, rolls in it, eats it, etc. I can't figure out what her fascination with the stuff is but she sure does enjoy it. She also
loves the cold weather (and it does get down into the single digits here on cold winter nights) but I can do without it (remember I'm a FL native!)
Sarah's got a lot more fur than I do, though, so she can handle the cold. My Mom has several jackets for me to wear which I do but if the
temperature falls below 30 degrees, forget it - I opt to skip our walks and stay home where it's nice and warm.
Well, my paws are getting a bit tired of writing so I'll close for now. We just wanted to send all our CARE friends a great big hello from TN.
We sure do miss everyone there but we think of you often and are so thankful to all of the wonderful people there who helped us find our forever home.
