When her owner died in May of 2008, Sammy, formerly called Jezbel, a 9-year-old female black-furred cat, did not have to worry about becoming
homeless. Her owner had provided for her future, making sure she would always have someone to take care of her. She had left instructions in her
will that C.A.R.E. would receive $500 to take her cat and find her a home.
In December of 2008, Rose Gehrke, looking for a cat to adopt, visited C.A.R.E after friends told her about the shelter. Sammy, being an older and
quiet cat, won her affection, and after having lived at C.A.R.E. for seven months, Sammy moved in with Rose.
Sammy felt right at home in her new environment. She inspected every corner of her new home and checked out all the spots she could use for napping.
She likes to sleep and takes a nap as often as she can, sometimes choosing the weirdest accommodations for it. Her favorite place, though, is her
mom's bed, and she beats her to it each night.
As the only furry house companion, Sammy receives undivided attention and enjoys special privileges. She already is in charge of the household, and
knowing all the guidelines, she does a good job. Her leadership qualities also show up in her dislike of being held and her willpower of shunning
any kinds of treats. She relishes being brushed, especially on her belly because she can get hold of the brush with her teeth.
One of Sammy's favorite pastimes is sitting at the living room window and looking outside. She enjoys watching and observing the birds and squirrels
that have become regular visitors after her mom started to feed them.
While Rose's friends comment that Sammy is lucky to have found Rose for her mom, who gives her all her love, Rose says she is the lucky one to have
found Sammy, who is the perfect house companion. Rose also praises C.A.R.E.'s cat quarters where cats can roam freely and receive excellent care.
